This is Mark McCarthy's story, who is raising money for a charity close to his heart - Meningitis Now.

"As a supporter of the wonderful Meningitis Now, a charity very close to my heart I have decided to set up this page in order to raise some more much needed funds in the continuous fight against the awful disease.

In January 2004 my youngest son Harvey-James fell ill with meningococcal septicemia which is a deadly form of meningitis, Harvey was just 9 months old at the time. Despite such awful adversity placed in front of him at such a young age Harvey battled back to full fitness with the amazing help and support shown on the PICU ward at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. Harvey lost all of his toes on both feet and some digits on each hand but now enjoys life to the full as boy his age should. He has amazing strength and courage in everything he does and is now 12 years old. I cannot express enough how different Harvey’s story would have been without charity’s like the Meningitis Now continuing to do the amazing work and research they do which has inspired me to take on board this challenge in order to raise extra funds for them to continue their work.

Having been inspired by people raising funds through out January with ‘Dry January’, I have set myself a target of a ‘DRY 2015’ in which I will not drink any alcohol while on English soil during the whole of 2015.

Any donation no matter how big or small WILL make a difference to the Charity and will also be very much appreciated by myself and close family and friends.
